Stella has sung professionally since 1995. Her early singing career started when she used to sing the traditional Bessie Smith blues acoustically in the pubs around Norwich and then progressed to become a renowned jazz vocalist performing private functions and venues throughout the UK. Stella has spent the last 28 years touring and gigging. Stella fronted Symbiosis Soul Band, The Crazy Mama Band and The Chris Simmons All-star Jazz Band. She has run various jazz clubs, fixes bands, runs a music agency which provides jazz bands, string quartets and harpists for weddings. Stella’s 1st recording was for Rose Records in 1997 for The John Petters New Orleans All-star Jazz Band and comprised gospel and spirituals. Her 2nd CD “Them There Eyes” is with Chris Simmons pianist and features Bessie Smith 1930s tunes and jazz standards. It was recorded in 2001. Her 3rd CD, “Since I Fell For You” on Jazz33 Records from 2003 features Stella & the Starlights original line up: Ted Beament piano. Paul Higgs trumpet. Phil Brooke guitar. Jim Richardson bass. Trevor Tomkins drums. Her 4th Album “ Someone to Watch over Me” was recorded in London 2010 and is a mix of jazz standards, French songs ballads , originals with lyrics by Stella and music by 1960s Ronnie Scott pianist and jazz legend Brian Dee . Stella is backed by The Dave Newton(14 x jazz UK pianist winner) Trio and features Derek Nash (Jools Holland Band) on sax. Stella’s 5th is work in progress and features Lord Arsenal on piano and Phil Brooke on guitar. Stella is highly regarded as one of the best Billie Holiday impersonators in the UK and has performed her show with Basie Band Pianist, Tony Suggs and the late Jack Parne
